Post-grad student bank account

Having been in Italy for nine years, I'm returning to the UK to do a full-time MA. Can I get a student bank account? I don't have a UK account any more (never expected to come back!) but I did keep my Barclaycard and have been quite good with it, although sometimes payment arrived late (Italian banks - gggrrr). Any other advice gratefully received.

Yes you can open a student account with any bank. Just wait untill June/July and you can then compare the different accounts avaliable. Look carefully at the overdraft avaliable, the bigger the better and the freebies with the account, e.g. free rail card, which is worth it if you are using the train a lot, but a most of the banks have rubbish freebies which are not useful or just give you an National Union of Students card which is only worth £10 compared to the rail card which is worth a lot more. Since you are a mature student you may need to take your letter which confirmed your place at University, as they may assume your pulling their leg. From looking in the past the best 2 for student accounts are Halifax and Natwest0
