Camcorder advise

Planning to buy a camcorder (Sony MiniDV preferably). I don't what to go with latest models available in the market as I wouldn't be using so many features. Can anyone suggest which is a good camera and also please suggest if there are any good deals available.

I don't know anything about Sony camcorders but I did post a recommendation there (post #4) about refurbished Canon MV800 or MV830's from the Canon Outlet on eBay - they usually go for about £120 and £135 respectively. They look new, come with full 1 year manfacturer's warranty, and the outlet is operated by the official Canon reseller (Digital River).

The MV800 and MV830 were apparently the entry level mini-DV models in 2005 but because of the mad pace of technology these are now distinctly 'trailing-edge', but they're still more than capable - see the review of the MV800 here .

The main selling points:

• Good Canon lens and CCD
• 20x optical zoom
• True 16:9 widescreen
• Dirt cheap!

The difference between the MV800 and MV830 is that the MV800 doesn't take still pictures but the MV830 does. The MV830 I bought also had a remote control which the MV800 didn't have.

we bought from digital river last week - arrived v quickly but battery wouldn't charge and they won't provide a replacement only a refund. so back to square one again......
