We are looking into getting our 18 month old bulldog neutered. I phoned the vet and they said it would cost 98.99 plus cost of collar (lampshade type thing). Does anyone know if this is a fair price as it seems very expensive to me. I also have to convince DH that the dog needs doing!
( Dh also needs doing as we dont want any more children but thats another battle!!)

I have just had my !!!!! spayed and with the lampshade thing it was £173.00 i think the lampshade thing was £4.50 but they said if you dont use it, they would refund that.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

I had my German Shepherd spayed 6 months ago and it cost around £90. £173 seems very expensive!0 -
forgot to say she had a small lump removed from her hind leg at the same time, as they did the spaying. Sorry.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

Shop around as different vets charge different prices.
I paid £64 for a border collie to be snipped earlier this year. They said he didn't need a lampshade as it was just two tiny cuts. However he kept licking the stitches so he ended up wearing a pair of big knickers with a hole cut in for his tail
Here I go again on my own....0 -
Or, do it yourself!! :rotfl:spacey

thanks for the replies. Guess the price is quite fair and we do like the vet practice. Looks like we will go ahead and get him done. I told DH the price, he now agrees he should be done but has been advised on a Bulldog website to wait until 2 years so that he has finished growing. So a bit of a wait and some saving to do. He had to wear the lamp shade thing once before but it wouldn't fit properly as he does not really have a neck! The knickers sound like a good idea.
Thanks again for the replies. Good to know Im not being ripped off.0 -
There was a TV advert in Northern Ireland wher you can get your dog neutered free if you are on the dole ... what will they spend my money on next !!!!0

If you are in reciept of HB or Council TAx Benefit you can go to the PDSA, they have recently started a Neutering/speying /jabs service at a substantially reduced cost.. or if you are already registeered they can also provide you with a list of Vetrenary Clinics that do this for a reduced fee..
