I live in a purpose built block of flats with approx 100 flats and the service charges are rising quite dramatically. is there a way we can get the charges vetted? I have come across theservicechargeconsultancy.com does anyone have any experience of these types of company? Do they get the results they promise. Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

These are the best people to advise you. It's a government funded agency offering advice regarding all aspects of owning residential leasehold property. http://www.lease-advice.org/ Don't go paying for advice that you can get for free.
You might want to look into the possibilty of collectively owning the freehold & forming your own management company to keep charges down. The people above can give you info on this too.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I agree with Cattie, you can ask to see the accounts for the year from the management company and what the breakdown is. The link Cattie has given you is an excellent source of advice and information.
Try and get together with as many people in the block to have a meeting with the Management company.
Good Luck
