Whatever you buy - make sure it has a 64 bit processor! You'll be grateful you did in future. I'd go for the AMD Sempron 3200 minimum.
    :)

dont you think that 64bit is a bit overklill for just using the internet and little home stuff?

Cheers for all that. I got a bit carried away with the thank yous, but as my nan used to say - in fact still does say - to me and my brother, I dont give one without the other. Dell is looking like a winner and will also check out a mac (is that a laptop?)
And if, you know, your history...

Maybe for what you want to do TODAY, but when Vista comes out later this year, you'll be kicking yourself for penny-pinching, especially when you consider the price of the Sempron processors at the moment. (Plus, it also depends what "a little home stuff" means - Digital photography/home video editing?).

That spec would be fine although you will almost certainly need to get some extra Memory (256 or 512) as 256 is really not enough. Don't buy the memory upgrade from Dell though, as they charge through the nose for upgrades (all upgrades are extortion from Dell, that's how they make a lot of their money on the cheap PC deals).
It's pretty easy to fit memory (it can only go in 1 place and one way round).

As for a printer, try here (they change daily so keep looking for bargains)

you can also get memory from there and save postage.

You should be able to get a free modem with a broadband package.
