Moving in house, advice needed

we are moving into our new house friday. the gas and electric has been turned off (its repo). do we simply need to ring a gas and electric supplier to arrange being reconnected. If so will this cost or do we simply need to read the meters etc.
Any idea's who will be cheapest (we will be low use - medium use).

If the supplies are simply turned off at the isolation switch/valve (as is normal for most repo's), you can turn them back on and there will be no reconnection charge.

If the supplies have actually been disconnected (often evidenced by the removal of the meter or master fuse) then there will probably be a charge.

There should be no charge it if it's a new tenancy/new occupier just contact the current providers.

Do this before you move in, as if it has been disconnected due to non payment you will need to fax them your papers and book appointments to connect the supply.
