in Credit cards
I've never missed a payment on my credit cards and always use the DD option to pay them off in full every month. However my CC company cancelled the DD their end (it's still set up on my current account) and ask for payment by another method. Admittedly I just file away my paper statements and only really pay attention to the online banking since I work away from home most of the time.
So I rang them up this morning and after 30 minutes of telephone transfer tennis managed to speak with somebody who was able to remove the late payment charge. However they've stuck a late payment notice on my credit file and said they couldn't remove that even though agreeing that it was their fault not mine. I'm a bit annoyed by this but just wondered how much of a problem it would be in the future. There's a good chance that I'll be applying for a mortage in the next 3 years so don't want this little mistake to cost me £100s in the future. Is this something I should be concerned with?
Cheers,
Daniel.

.
It could be a problem if you were having a credit check in the next few months but after a couple of years I wouldn't have thought so.
It will still be on your file though.
You can contact the credit agencies and have a "correction notice" placed against it and they will make enquiries with the Bank/credit card company on your behalf and then have it removed or corrected.
Use one of the free 30 day trials with Experian or one of the others to check your file.
You can then see if there are any other errors on your file.0 -
Surely if they are removing the late payment charge then they are admitting that they have made the mistake?? I would keep on trying with the cc company as I had a similar experience with my cc - they placed a late payment on my file when actually I had paid over the phone (in time!!) I phoned pretty much every day until I managed to speak to someone who authorised its removal..... DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!!!0

If when you access your credit report it includes details of the late payment, ask the agency to dispute it for you - they will contact the CC company on your behalf. Considering what you've said, the information should be removed without a problem.“Official Company Representative
I am an official company representative of Experian. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. Thanks for all the advice!
I forgot to mention that they fully admitted that it was their fault. They'd already placed a note on my credit file for "missed payment" but weren't very forthcoming about contacting the credit agency to remove it. I'll contact them today and prod them to sort it out. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it will be sorted quickly because my current 0% BT runs out on the 1st May!
Cheers,

This happened to me with Orange, I wrote to them explaining what had happened and asked them for their regulatory body to complain to, (probably an ombudsman for you). I Sent them a copy of the invoice and explained why I couldn't avoid missing the payment. I requested a reply within 14 days. I then contacted experian/equifax and asked them to dispute it. The credit report companies were not very useful and wrote to me to let me know that Orange wouldn't remove it, but Orange had already removed the missed payment by this time.
Don't waste time on the phone, you don't get anywhere.Nice to save.0
