Goodwill dilema

Hi,

I recently wrote to both HSBC and Halifax crdit card departments asking them for my full charges plus interest. The HSBC replied within the week and offered me the full amount plus an extra £90! However today I received a letter from the Halifax.

So this is the problem, they have offered me a goodwill payment of £169 saying that this covers the difference between the £25 and the now standard £12. This is not the case, in fact this would amount to £221. So now I dont know what to do, take the £169 and run! Or hold out for the full amount plus charher which equals £406. I could do with the money but if for the sake of a few more weeks and another letter I get an extra £230 I can wait.

Are they likely to up my offer, and if not would I be able to accept this at a later date. Im assuming its a standard letter with scare mongering tactics, however it states that "i am satisfied that the charges have been corectly applied to your account. Therefore I am sorry to advise you I am decling your offer." It also states thats that "be advised that refunds of interest will not be considered."

Any thoughts, I really dont know what to do for the best.

Just follow the process in the credit card charge reclaiming article - so get the next stage's letter and send it back to them which states you dont want their offer of X, you want your claim of Y. Remember, recorded delivery.

Give it a few weeks and see what they say.

Remeber if they do not resolve your complaint within 8 weeks you can go to the FOS, who has awarded people the £12 charges back. Or possibly to court... Read the success stories to get an idea of what other people have had to do.

Or as you say - you can accept and run.

It's up to you! Good luck!
