Hi,
I have a problem with my laptop...I don't know anything about this sort of thing and I mean anything..:o
Any advice on what i should do to speed it up...clear stuff off perhaps? should i try putting things on an external harddrive in order to create more memory on the laptop itself..??
Any help appreciated!

Unfortunately there are lots of reasons as to why a computer runs slowly - that's why techs can make a nice living out of the business, but there are a number of things you can do yourself.
For a start, get rid of the rubbish that accumulates on any system - I'd recommend CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/) as it's free, safe & does a good job. After that you must have a decent security suite installed, updated and run regularly. If your harddrive is getting full (check in 'My Computer' to see how much free space you have on the main drive) then it is a good idea to backup photos, music etc. to an external source (it's a good idea to do that anyway, just in case the drive fails) but if you've got lots of space then you don't need to remove your own files. Defragmenting the harddrive sounds ominous but, if it's an oldish system, it can help - in 'My Computer', right-click the main drive, select 'Properties, then 'tools' and 'defragment' - follow the prompts (it will take some time). This will be a good start.0 -

As i just mentioned on another post. Always worth clearing the page file. That can speed things up alot.
