How much should I expect to pay to paint 1 room

Hello I have never used a professional painter/decorator but can't face painting my bedroom.

Its a reasonable size double bedroom in a 1930s house. Bay window in room and original picture rail, 2 alcoves. Currently papered (I could strip the paper I suppose). I want one colour on the walls and a different colour above the picture rails including ceiling. Woodwork is skirting board, one door and picture rail.

I would provide F&B paint.

What sort of quote should I expect and how long should a job like this take? (not sure if relevant - I'm in a small market town in the east midlands)

We need to know the room dimensions. "reasonable size" indicates at least 14 x 14 + height which will be 2.6 metres plus. F&B paint is expensive. I would gustimate this will cost at least £300 minimum.

I think about 14*13 (ish!) height is 246cm exactly!

F&B paint is good though! Hmmm £300- in that case maybe I could do it myself. LOL

Sorry,

Don't agree about F&B paint. It's not very opaque and where 2 coats would normally suffice, F&B will often need 3. I know a few decorators who automatically charge more if F&B is used.
Go Dulux every time. If you like a F&B colour, just take a sample and get it mixed in dulux...;)

that's a good price btw, and bare in mind that's minimum

remember we've got a mortgage and bills to pay as well

i genuinely don't know how much you thought it would cost you.

Hi,i am a quality decorator hope i can help,to strip wall 2 days, make good all walls ceiling door windows, sill etc i day,paint walls ceiling and undercoat 2 days,Gloss,satinwood, eggshell finish 1 day ,so i would price it up at 6-7 days and the finish would be top notch .On the subject of farrow and ball paint i like using this range ,the flat oils for wood are superb and the range of shades are amazing ,as the other gentleman stated there waterbased and oil paints are a bit !!!!y excuse the pun but most of us know that all these colours are traditional and go back through the centuries thats why we pay over the odds for it,also having the paint knocked up cheaper ie by johnstones etc i have painted many jobs and the mixture or colour is not exact in every tin you take your chance by saving a few quid ,also you will not get your money back if the paint has been knocked up because the shop cannot resell it. My favourite paint naturally is dulux cannot beat it, go in to a proper paint shop ie brewers and purchase trade paint that will save you a few pennies they are also quite knowledgeable . An excellent paint i recently used with a high opacity was called Painters Guild quite expensive but a superb lustre ,hope this information helps.
