The best in all reports and I can personally vouch for is the Miele cat and dog. Fantastic bit of a kit beats a dyson hands down, although I personally dont like dysons.

I have 2 cats and bought a Sebo cylinder cleaner last year - it's much better than the Dyson I had before, which as you said was okay to start with but doesn't pick up pet hair any more - even a new filter didn't help!

Having read other threads about vacuum cleaners, the ones people seem to be happiest with are Sebo and the Miele Cat & Dog.

As a domestic cleaner, my eyes light up and my heart is filled with joy when I discover a client has a Miele Cat and dog. Conversely my eyes become clouded with depression and my heart plummets to my boots when I see they have a dyson either upright or cylinder - they are both rubbish and don't last long. They are also the clumsiest vacuam cleaners ever invented.

Miele have this fabulous cleaner head which whizzes round and beats the carpet, lifting all in its wake. The tools are lovely too. The machine is light also and follows you round like a devoted pet. Beeutiful in my opinion.

I think you can guage my advice to you. Miele = :j Dyson =

  • Had a look at my copy of Which? (consumer mag) and in their tests the highest scores for pet hair were :

    Sebo Felix 1 Premium
"One of the better uprights, a retro-looking vac that does the job on most surfaces". £202

    and

    Sebo Automatic X4 extra
"A good choice if you have laminate floors, but fares less well on carpets and floorboards." £190

However neither of these were the best buys - they said that although in general uprights are better at cleaning pet hair; few are as good at cleaning as the best cylinders.

Of the 'best buys': (all cylinders) there is the Bosch BSG 71810 GB Formula (£90 at Argos Extra) of which they said "for a cylinder, it deals effectively with errant pet hair" and the Miele S4210 (£119) and Miele Xtra Power 2300 were good for pet hair too. They did not test the Miele Cat & Dog, however this may be similar to one of the other Miele models they tested? They also said Miele had an above average reputation for reliability while Dysons reliability was "consistently below average".

best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

Another fan of the Miele Cat and Dog here! It copes excellently with collie hair and my long fine hairs that get everywhere!

I had an upright Electrolux model before this one, and my hair used to get wound round the brushes, and I had to sit and pick it all off every so often - yuk!
Here I go again on my own....
  • I've got a Dyson Animal and it is rubbish - I hate it and can't wait till it packs up and I have to get a new one - I just can't justify getting a new one as the Dyson is only a year old. My friend swears by her O Henry machine and she says that loads of people who are in the cleaning business say they are really good, and not too pricey either.
