Nationwide

Hi

I've got a 3 flexaccounts and a couple of e-savings accounts with Nationwide. Always kept in the black but because I'm trying to save for a house, I make sure every month I put a bit away from my main accounts, into the other accounts, just so I can keep track of my ingoings and out goings.
This month with my statement, I received a letter saying I'd been charged £20 for going overdrawn. Now, I do admit for 2 days, I was overdrawn by £100 (mainly due to the fact I was waiting on £160 to be credited to my account from returning something) but in my other accounts, I've got over £10,000.
I know £20 is not a lot but would I stand a chance at claiming it back? I've already told them that I'm not happy and that I'd be closing my account if they didnt do anything about it but they just tried fobbing me off with there top 5 tips at avoiding bank charges.

  • You can use the standard approach but unless you are in severe financial hardship you will have to wait for the conclusion of the OFT test case. I would suggest that you write a letter to them as this was a first offence and see if they will refund it as a gesture of goodwill.

I have been a customer of NW for maybe 20 years and am always in the black with a healthy balance. A few months ago, what with all the jostling with savings rates changing,i mis timed a cheque and it bounced. They charged me £30. I emailed them-got a bland standard reply. I wrote to them-got a bland standard reply.

OK i was over drawn but they have had use of a vast sum of my money for years AND they have had it recently at crappy interest rates.

My mission now is to punish them.

I've just moved my ISA to a better provider. They wrote to say how sorry they are that I'm leaving.

I only use their accounts for my convenience now.

Its just an in transit point between other providers.

NW service has gone down badly recently but they will pay the price in the long term.

    Dont get mad,get even.
