Unwanted web site keeps appearing ...

Hoping someone can help me here ...

Occasionally, when trying to access a web site (usually this one ;)), the computer seems to slow down and I get a page come up (looks like some sort of search engine) called http://www.incredifind.com/.  This appears in various forms and I usually get pop-ups appear at the same time.

Eventually, I'll get the page up that I want after I keep trying, but this is very annoying.

Although it tells you on this site how to "remove" the page, I tried following the instructions and it doesn't work.  I've also tried emailing them a number of times and no-one replies.  I've checked my "programs" and it doesn't appear there.

Can anyone advise me on how to get rid of this. ???  (I've tried running Norton Anti-virus and AdAware, but it doesn't help).

Instructions to remove it manually can be found here

Removal involves editing the registry, which if done incorrectly could result in your PC crashing or failing to start correctly. You edit the registry at your own risk, and should back up the registry before you start. (After starting regedit and BEFORE doing anything else, click on File > Export, select All enter a meaningful name (e.g. todays date) and save to your desktop.)
How do I add a signature?

What about removing it "automatically" using Spyhunter?  (As suggested on the removal page you've directed me to).  Would I be safe in doing this do you think?

Update :  Spyhunter has to be purchased to get rid of the problem (though it has identified it). Loathe to do anything manually myself as I'm not an IT person by any stretch of the imagination. ::)

    try this tool
    http://download.centralserver.net/uninst/unsetup.exe

The general concensus of the commercial anti-spyware tools is that they aren't worth the money. Some install spyware. There is also a general trend to include non-spyware items to increase the number of items they claim to protect against.

Spybot SD might also get rid of it.

  • I think a less stressful way of removing it is with hijack this, dowload available on this forum somewhere. Save to own folder, run scan and save it. Register with one of the sites below(or any other site for the help with hijackthis logs) start a new thread and copy/paste your log with them for help with removal. They will hold your hand all the way.

    Thanks Blinky and Peter.

Blinky :  I've tried this URL and it does not work.  Yes, I'm afraid of more spyware being installed and am loathe to buy any (as you're prompted to do after a scan of course). ::)

Peter ... nice idea, I've run this hijack program, but it will not allow you to save it or print it, so I'm a little stuck and don't really want to write everything out.  Any ideas?

  • What happens when you run a scan? Normally at the end of the scan run one of the boxes at the bottom left changes to save log. do so (and remember where you saved it) copy file, and go to web site of your choice.

Can see any such "save" button on this one Peter ... once you've run the scan, it doesn't give you any options (except to purchase!).

  • This has thrown me. What version are you using? Current one is 1.99
Is it its own directory and not temp?
When scan is done it should read in the bottom left corner---
    Save log
    Fix Checked
    Info on Selected.
If you are using older version get current from

    Hi Peter,

Having problems running Hijackthis at all now... keeps putting it in Word format and just a mass of hieroglyphics, which I can't do anything with!

The good news is that I've run Adaware again and managed to Quarantine and then delete the "dangerous" registry entries (hopefully the right ones!).  I've rerun "Spyhunter" again which now does not show these up (which it did originally) and also run Spybot and removed 3 entries.  Fingers cross, the "incredifind" page has not reappeared since.  Here's hoping ...

Thanks for all your help and I hope I don't have to post again re. this. ::)
