hi there, my 2 year olds is similar, his concentration is not great but I think it is more to do with the fact that it is his personality. my daughter would sit from about 9 months and paint and gradually do more crafty things, she has great concentration but my son will do something for 5 mins and then move on.

I give my 2 the omega fish oils from boots. it is strawberry flavoured and has a slight fishy smell , it is quite thick as well but my kids love it!!! it is boots own brand and has a pink label and is often on offer.

This is the one we bought when it was on offer. We have 3 bottles of it and no chance of it being used. I'm glad yours like it though!

You've all been really helpful. Many thanks. Thriftlady, your post is really going to help me sort things out.

I have eaten quorn but it's not something we usually have. I don't know if it contains omega 3. Here's an extract from the vegetarian society about the use of eggs in it:

'Mycoprotein is potentially a very useful food item for vegetarians. Since early 2000 the Quorn deli and ingredients ranges have been approved by the Vegetarian Society since the albumin used as a binder in its manufacture has been changed in those ranges from a non free range to a free range egg source. However at present the ranges of ready meals, burgers, sausages etc still use eggs from a non free range source.'
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

TUna (dolphin friendly of course) is great.

Mix with mayonnaise and have it on a baked spud, in a pitta, in a sarnie.

Mix with spices and salad cream and add to hot pasta - with cheese on top. Yum, yum, yum.

Also good with cous cous and in salads.

No face, no skin, no fuss!!

How about googling to find the details of an organic fish supplier that delivers to your door? It won't be as cheap as buying from a supermarket but a) you'd be buying produce that fits your ethical criteria and b) you wouldn't have to go to a butcher/fishmonger. You need to order fillets - these are usually skinned and will definitely have been gutted/decapitated.

My eldest was also in 5-6 year old clothes at the age of 2. Tall kids have a tough time as people expecting them to act the average age of their height ie. 5-6 rather than there real age 2. A 2 year olds attention span is alot shorter than a 5 year old. I think some eggs and yoghurts are supposed to have some Omega 3 oil in them. The ones that come to mind our Columbus Eggs and Nestle Munch Bunch Probiotic Yoghurt drink. I don't know how much Omega 3 oil is in them. There are probably other products with Omega 3 oil added. I heard that tinned tuna doesn't have much Omega 3 oil. Can anybody verify that?

what about eggs and milk that have added omega 3 and activia yoghurt also has omega 3 added. Have you tried putting the omega in pure orange juice to disguise the taste. I think there are quite a few food products that now contain added omega 3. I am not vegitarian but fish unless its in a tin a bone free I have to give it a miss. Good luck. By the way my son is big for his age and when he was younger people would expect him to behave in a mature way beacause they look older, I think being 2 is quite a difficult age where there are just asserting their oww personalities

all large supermarkets have fish mongers they are happy to advice
  • Morning, are you sure your 2-year-old has a problem with concentration? I work in early years and as a rule of thumb we say that a child is only able to concentrate for one minute per year of his life, ie your son should be able to manage 2 minutes!

Have you tried mixing it with strawberry milkshake? I used to have to mix my daughter's vitamin drops with milk to get her to take them.

By the way, both my children started life as veggie. My son decided at 4 he wanted to eat meat like his dad, but my daughter is nearly 8 and she's still veggie. My son is now nearly 13 and has always had problems concentrating - eating meat/fish hasn't made any difference for him. I just make sure he has something like blue tack to fiddle with in lessons as it seems to focus his mind if his hands are doing something.

The fishmonger in my local Morrisons is excellent though I don't use him very often (don't eat a huge amount of fish) - when I went to pick out two tuna steaks for a Valentines day meal he really took his time over choosing two "nice" bits and checking I liked the look of them etc. I was surprised as I didn't expect that kind of personal service from a supermarket really, esp one in London. So it is an option if you don't have an independent one nearby...not sure how ethical is though...
