Do you really need someone to post the obvious answer?

Ah right. So they may offer it you at that price for a month or so and then hike it up? Or they won't offer it at that price at all?
Sorry for the naievity, and I know it will get jumped on by some posters, but I just don't understand. I have had student lets for the last 4 years, and all the houses i've rented so far haven't had any hidden charges! (must be lucky eh!)

what do the LA have to gain, apart from more enquiries? :o

I see. I really must be stupid then, as I have never come across this before!
  • Katie,

Don't worry, you will soon realise the scams that people play as you go through life ( I'm assuming you are a young student as opposed to a mature one).

My university days are 20 years ago and I was fortunate to buy an house with another student. We charged our mate £21 a week for our spare room. That is the price this adverts asks (almost) for the whole property 20 years later.

It's just a marketing scam to get people to call the agency.
  • Hi Katie,
It is unlikely that they would somehow 'hike' the rent up as you'd probably be agreeing to an assured shorthold tenancy which would give you (say) 6 months or 1 year at an agreed price. This will likely be how your student houses have been rented.

I wonder whether they are willing to deal with DSS or some other agency who provide money for rent to those less fortunate... (I have no idea how these things work- that's just my best guess).

Whatever the case, you can bet your bottom dollar that you wouldn't get it for that money.

(p.s. 1986 was a very good year to be born )

Forward a copy to trading standards, and email the agent suggesting they get the spelling police to check their particulars before posting them up.

It's a scam to increase their mailing lists and increase the LA's profile.

Why not just call the agent. See what it is all about.
