Inserting games into Excel

I've been sent a few games from friends that have been inserted into Excel, and they're obviously internet based.

How easy is it to insert internet based games into Excel/Word ?

    The only game I've ever seen is the "flight simulator" that was built in to Excel '97.

    What do you mean by "inserting internet based games into Excel/Word"? Do you want to embed a game that someone else has created? Or write your own? And what sort of game - a numeric kind of game involving spreadsheets (like Yahtzee! or something) or a graphic-animation type of game? The latter is probably either very difficult or impossible to do well using VBA (the programming language behind the MS Office suite).
  • I've seen and used tetris, pacman, whack the penguin, whack the cyclist, amongst others.
    Wanted to have some games I like, on my 'steam-driven' laptop, without being on-line.

    Oh, I see what you mean. I had never thought of embedding a game into Word/Excel, but I guess it's done using HTML.

    You'd have to download the file from the website, then create an HTML file like this and open it in Excel/Word.
    <html><body>
    <embed src="game.swf" width="550" height="400">
    </body></html>

    I can't say I've ever tried, though, so I'm not 100% sure this'll work!

    They are usually just flash based "games" embedded via HTML as per esuhl's post.

    Instead just download the SWF/flash file and run it locally in a browser when you want.

    If you use Firefox, get the DownloadHelper add-on and you can easily download SWF/Flash videos/games/files etc.
  • This page I found via google explains how to do this: http://discuss.pcmag.com/forums/thread/1004299939.aspx

    Basically you download the game, then insert the game into the sheet as a "Shockwave Flash Object".
