Windows error message

Yesterday and today once the pc has booted up I get the following message: Windows has recovered from a serious error, (error message) Error signature BCCode: 1000000a BCP1:F8C22000 BCP2: 00000002 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4:804D9EA4 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product: 256_1

Does anyone know what this means and what I can do to correct it?
Thanks

I take it that is Windows XP? More than likely this is a hardware error. have you added any components lately? Have you changed anything that may cause it to get hot?

Just done a google on your error and there are many instances of this error. But a common one seems to be a video driver.
Do you play pc games at all or installed a new one?

    Try this.

Go to Start / Run and type chkntfs /d and click OK.

Let us know what happens to the error message after that.

Also go to the Windows Update site here ....

....and ensure your system is fully up to date with all patches etc.

Use CCleaner to clean out your system. Download here ....

Thanks for the replys, answers to the questions you asked:
1.The only thing I have added is a multi USB hub, now I did buy this from the pound shop! so could this be getting hot? Should I take it back and invest in a proper one?

    2. I don't play pc games

    3. I typed in "chkntfs /d" a small black screen came up and went, I didn't get the message of the critical alert today and have run cleaner.
    What does chkntfs /d do?

Many thanks for all you advice.

Wouldn't rely on the one from the pound shop.

Chkntfs /D: Restores the computer to default behavior and removes some registry settings. This means all drives are checked at boot time and Chkdsk is run against drives found to be dirty.

Have you gone to the Update site, recommended in my last post, and downloaded all updates/patches?

Do we take it that all is well at this point or is anything still not right?

It is allways nice when people keep everyone informed on the outcome.
Really gets my goat when people post and then never return to update.
