However in their letter it did state that I was to call them if i wanted to extend it, which I did and was told that it was ok.

After 2 weeks of receiving no letter of confirmation form them I contacted them online. No response.

About a week ago I was unable to get into online banking, and had to have a new pin sent out - which I received yesterday.

Logged in today to find a message to say that I needed to pay in a min on £1250 a month, I pay in nearly £2k. and have done for 4 years.

I check my account balance and there is a credit limit of £0. I call them up and no one can do anything until tomorrow and was told my request had been declined, even though I have received no letter to say so, and despite being told on the phone it was fine.

I get pad if 4 days time, so no time to arrange another account. I am angry, worried, and no idea what to do to now.

Will they let me reduce it by £100 a month do you think?

diddie, if you were told on the phone it was fine, demand they listen to the call and because you have been misinformed they either need to 1) honour the limit or 2) ensure you are not charged because THEY have made an error.

Some years ago (when I had a 9mnth old baby) I had an OD with The Nationwide, it was for £700 and I usually just dipped into it by £50-£100 at the end of each month before payday, one month 4 days before payday they removed the OD without any notice, I had a small baby to feed and no money!! Since then I have never let my self rely on banks, they are only out for one thing TO GET YOUR MONEY!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

Thank you. I am going into the branch tomorrow to speak to them. I really don't want to as I hate banks, but I have no choice.

They said they would re-instate my £1000 overdraft and wanted to "come to an arrangement that would benefit both parties" I asked them to reduce it by £150 per month and they accepted that.

Apparently it will come back within the next 24hrs.

    Hello,

I received a letter yesterday from Alliance & Leicester saying that my overdraft would be removed 30 days from the date of the letter which was dated 29th July 2009.
On logging on to internet banking today I have had a direct debit bounce and been charged £25 fee, but I was well within my overdraft limit. I called A&L immediately to find out what was going on, and a snooty girl told me it was because I was overdrawn and that was that. I argued the point and she in said I would have to speak to credit control. On speaking to them they said that my overdraft had been removed on 1st August instead of 1st September and that it was a clerical error on their behalf. I just wanted to warn anyone else who have had a letter, be careful the OD may already have been removed and your DD's bounced and then charged for the priviledge of their error.

I hope you have complained and if not please follow there complaints process and be prepared to follow it up to the FOS to get all your charges refunded. While overdrafts are a privilege removing your overdraft like that is unfair.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

How were they only out to get "your money?"

You were out to get THEIR money through an overdraft. And having an overdraft is still the same as not having any money. You didn't "have" any money before they took it.

This thread scares me.. If I had my O/D taken away I couldn't eat!

Reading what you write really scares me, as if your relying upon your Overdraft to eat, then you seriously need help, and fast.
