service which only used one month but they have been debiting me for about 6 months or more at about £20!!. what are my rights on this? i asked Halifax to cancel for the past 2 months at least and this still has not been done. they wrote on the credit card statemetn that they had credited me for january but have not given me the money for this (or credited me for the previous months either) and i notice this month that i have been debited again. does anyone know my rights?
I have written 2 letters now to halifax and also tried to ring them (apparently one lady tried to call me but could not get through). i no longer use this card as the interest free period is finished too. thanks in advance. it is really worrying me. also have found the original details of the company that are debiting me do i try via them or credit card? thansk in advance.

In my experience it is a case of going to a branch and getting hold of a person there and get them to sort it out for you including all calls to the customer service department.
Take any paper work you have with you and note down the dates you have written to them and get it all straight in your head ,so you can ask for any money they owe you and then go to the branch.
Inconvient and it wastes your morning but it is the best way to get it sorted.
The other way is to cancel the card and close the account. This still means you will have to do the follow up enquires to get it sorted but you won't have anymore problems from the date of cancellation.Hopefully.0 -

Hi there,
It isn't clear whether the service you are talking about is run by the halifax or not.
Either way - your argument is with the provider of the service. You have given them the authority to debit your card under a continuous payment, which means that even if you close the card, they can debit it!
(Crazy huh?)
This is partly why direct debits are popular, because if you cancel it - they can't take more money. In this case - you need to contact the online service provider and get them to stop taking the money. There is little Halifax can do (assuming they are just the credit card provider in this case).

Yes, as MPH80 told, Halifax cannot do anything with this. The only way to cancel is to contact 'the company'.building wrote:...also have found the original details of the company that are debiting me do i try via them or credit card? thansk in advance.

If you read grumbler's link above, you'll find this won't work.0 -
Oh no they won't! Even if you've closed the account, they can STILL take the money.wacko911 wrote:. . .all your problems will disappear!0 -

He obviously didnt read Grumbler's post.
If it was a rebill thing, I bet it was for one of those !!!!!! sites. I know from my university days that they all do monthly 'services' and then rebilling unless cancelled.0 -

just to let everyone know halifax has just credited back over £100 to me. they said no need to cancel card. well lets see. took name of person. now have credit on card they will even credit back to current account. not sure that the £100 is all the money the retailer owes me but better than nothing so far. will still pursue for the rest ...MPH80 wrote:Not if you didn't tell them you wanted to cancel. If you did, and they still kept on billing you, then you can.
