PCN outside my house!

Hi All
I received a civil parking ticket outside my own house on Monday morning. I pay for a yearly residential permit, and I live in one of the London boroughs.
The permit restrictions are between 8.30am - 6.30pm Monday to Friday. At weekends and evenings it is free to park - and during these times our road is used for day-trippers and shoppers continuously.
The ticket was issued because I had both wheels on the curb, but literally 20cm on the curb at the most. When I returned home Sunday - the only way I could fit my car into a small space on a packed out road, was to park slightly on the curb. But my issue is that the ticket was issued at 3am Monday morning. Firstly, next to my car was a tree - more of an obstruction to the path than my car being on the curb 20cms. Secondly - what trouble am I causing at 3am on a Sunday night/Monday morning in a residential street, in a residential parking bay?
So - yes I am guilty for parking on the curb - but to me this ticket seems a little on the ridiculous side. How do I appeal even though I am guilty? I really don't see why I should pay £60 (this is the reduced price) for this ticket.
Thank you in advance for any advice
