Cheap MS Office for people who aren't at Uni or working for NHS

OpenOffice is a false economy, esp if your in education.
I'd agree 100% - IMHO (which probably isn't worth a lot, since I'm an MCSE so probably biased) OpenOffice is OK for basic home-type office needs, but isn't a patch on MS Office. I find that most people that think it's as good as MS Office haven't used MS Office for a long time. OOo's UI is abysmal, it's inconsistent, it's pretty unstable and looks like a bad copy of Office 95.
But then it is free, so (as so often) you get what you pay for."In all affairs it's a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted." - Bertrand Russell0 -

It's no real surprise when you look at how much of a mess the source for the programs is. The developers have a real need to do some fundamental reworking on how things have been done, but I guess they don't have the resources to do that and progress the featureset.0 -
Just done a bit of hunting around and the cheapest current price I can find Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition (3 User Licence) for is £55.71 at good old Amazon UK. Retail seems to be £119.99, and it's almost a hundred quid at PC World.0

Go for Open Office.
It is occasionaly a bit slow but does most things that Office does plus it is free.0 -

OpenOffice, while being pretty good, is not better than MS Office.
If OpenOffice cost £200+ there isn't a single person in the entire world who would use it.
Next you'll be saying GIMP is better than Photoshop.0 -

software4students have MS Office Entreprise Edition on offer for £35 until the end of the month. You can stick it on 2 PC's
