Hi All,
I have moved into a house with an electric halogen hob. Problem is, i have gone through about 4 woks in 2 months! They just keep losing the "Non - Stick" and then i bought a normal wok which needed seasoning and that did exactly the same. I always buy woks that say that they work on electric hobs but no joy. Don't know what i am doing wrong, maybe i am letting them get too hot as i usually put the meat in when its almost smoking. Although i have a diswasher i dont put them in that, i wash them with washing up liquid and a cloth.
Any ideas, or wok suggestions?!!
Thanks

Are you using plastic utensils? Metal ones can scratch the coating and damage the surface...If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

hmmm... strange...!! What make? Tefal ones are pretty good. Expensive if they keep failing tho...If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

I usually find it hard to get a wok hot enough on an electric hob so if you are leaving it to heat up until it is smoking, is it possible you are actually leaving it on too long? The instructions for a new nonstick pan I bought this week say it could damage the non stick to heat the pan up when emptyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

How can a normal wok 'lose its non stick coating'?
Yet another reason not to have an electric hob. Why does anyone have one when gas hobs are so much better?0 -

Not all houses have gas supply.
I bought a wok at TK Maxx about 4 years ago and it is going strong. It had a lifetime guarantee. It was not a cheap one originally though.
I let the hot plate get hot without the wok on it. I only put the wok on when it is ready.0 -

As for a wok I found no wok would work on our hob (Seimens Ceran) so eventually bought a plug in electric wok. This works well (not as well as normal wok with gas but a lot better than normal wok on electric).
I missed cooking with gas when I came up here but now much prefer leccie!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Hi, I have used a "cheap" non stick wok on my halogen hob for 15 years:eek:. I wash it after use with fary liquid, rub it with a little oil on some kitchen roll and store until the next time. Have not have any probs. Lecie versus gas debate, lecie every time.0

Hi,
I've had similar problems in the past and now I put a dash of oil in the wok while it's heating and this seems to have sorted it! I use a cheap non-stick wok and its the best one yet(£3 from Ikea) seeing as I've gone through a few:o Always been washed by hand too using only plastic & wooden utensils.
Leccie Vs Gas debate - both have pro's n con's, personally I'd go back to gas in a flash if I was allowed but not allowed seeing as the last time we had gas I set the kitchen on fireDebt [STRIKE]£52,656.60[/STRIKE]_pale_£41273.42:)

Fair enough. Slightly ironic that a part of Scotland doesn't have access to their gas:D.0
