Is this Desparate?

Found an old post office savings account book (blue) it shows acurrent balance of £1 however between nov76 and april 84 it had £3 and 84 to April85 had £17 it has never had the intrest calculated ever and the £1 balance has been there since 85 untouched so stuck an old orange 1st class stamp I found on it ansent it off asking them to calcalate the intrest from 1976 to present, Maybe should of left till Nov and got a whole year? :confused:

Best bit was in the front of the book said that if two withdrawls of £5 or more were made in a 7 day period the book must be sent to Glassgow and the most you could withdraw at one time is £20. :rolleyes:

    i once found an Abbey book which had about £100 in it and hadn't been looked at for about 6-8years and I got £80 interest it was fab. And no its not desperate, we as brits - me included - get so embarrasse about money, but banks don't and they take advantage of us because of us, a few pence is a few pence and it all adds up!
    May 2015 £10 a day currently £208
  • Nah not desperate at all - all you are doing is asking for your money which you originally deposited and any interest that is due! ;)

    I've just found 20 Euros that a customer had paid me with about 3 years ago..took it to the PO and got £13.05!! Paid it into the bank right next door...one happy bunny here (if slightly desperate :D)
  • Hello,

    I was inspired by someone yesterday who had an old savings book - I found two - one P/O National Savings and Investments with £1.01 in it from 2003 so will be sending that back. The other one is from Halifax with £1.00 in it from 1997 - which is interesting as I have a HBOS bank account and this doesn't appear linked anywhere...

    The worst point was that I found an old P/O savings book of OH's and he has £15.63 to claim! Booo....

    I think everything counts! These savings accounts should have been closed years ago. I don't think it's sad at all!

    scottishspendaholic x
    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83

    Thanks for the reminder! I found an old Leeds Permanent Building Society book the other day with a balance of about £17 in it - untouched for the past 10 years or so. Must try to track down that money. Is Leeds Permanent now part of Halifax?
