Housemate and Wireless Connection

Hi guys - this is a wierd one
Recently a new person has moved into the house and started to use the wireless connection - presumably in a similar way to the last person - however this seems to be causing problems for my connection.
If I log on 'first' then it is OK and the other person also seems to be able to connect afterwards.
If on the other hand he is first and I try to log on it connects to the network but no sites come up. The diagnostic checker brings up a HTTPS port error.
Pretty sure it is something to do with the interaction between our machines as we tried logging him off and then mine started working.
Any ideas?

Have you checked (e.g. from a Command Prompt window, doing IPCONFIG ) whether both your PCs have, or are being assigned, the same IP address?0
-
I'd ensure both machines are set to use DHCP addressing i.e. Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Right click the specific network connection -> Properties -> Scroll down to TCP/IP -> Properties -> then ensure the Obtain an IP address automatically is ticked.
If this is fine then try rebooting the router.
If this doesn't make a difference then check to see if either machine are downloading e.g. utorrent, P2P etc.0 -
As an extreme, find out if your wireless router is Linux-based. If so, install DD-WRT and enable traffic management so you both get the same amount of bandwidth0

Thanks for your ideas.
On the IP address - when mine works I get the address 192.168.2.1 with other addresses (after the 2) being assigned when it doesn't work.
My PC is definately set to automatically obtain an IP automatically and we have tried rebooting the router many times.0 -
Hi again
The machines have been assigned different IP adresses. Mine with end bit 2.10 and his with ending 2.225.
Both have IP's automatically assigned though his didn't have DNS automatically assigned - could this have been the issue?
Also on the other machine there are 2 sets of IP versions (4 and 6). Would this make any odds?0
