help copying old firefox profile to new vista laptop

Right just got my new dell laptop and think I could be asking a lot of question in the next few days.

Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to copy the old data such as passwords, bookmarks, addons from my pc (xp) to my new laptop (vista) I've copied the profile old firefox 3 folder from my pc to an external hard drive (the folders named gve8djjx.default) but I can't seem to make firefox work once I copy the folder on to my laptop it keeps telling me firefox is not reponding I've tried a reboot but still no luck.

Any help would be brilliant

did google it aerostar but though there was a way to just drag and drop the old file into the new file on the laptop? will give your link a go thanks

Wouldn't it be quicker to export then import your bookmarks, and setup Firefox on the new machine from fresh?

I like the link above - Just bookmarked that for my own personal use.

Another easier way (IMO) is install Foxmarks. That way there is no trying to carry files from one PC to a Laptop etc.
