One statement a year (might be every two)
Information is out of date by a year when you do get it.
They send out a new 'online' repayment portal which will help you calculate an up to date balance.
So I log in, it asks me what my balance is, what payments I've made so it can tell me what I owe. Isn't that what a spreadsheet is for?
Anyway by the time I got the login information I'd not seen or heard of my latest statement, so the day it goes through the door I login, except that I can't. Not sure why and the people there have gone home (great for people who work normal hours!)
Hurrah!
Also if you type in 'studentloanrepayments.co.uk' it doesn't go to the website, you've got to type the https://www.studentloanrepayments.co.uk because their web developer obviously has never set up a website before. Grrr!
And don't get me started on companies house or my own employer who's still not sent me my P60 yet so I can do my self assessment which the self assessment people told me I didn't need to do, I got them to confirm in writing, then they sent me another letter saying they'd reviewed it and I do. They say this every bleeding year.
Not having a good day. [/rant]

You think that's bad!! Just wait until you actually pay the thing off.
So, anyway, I pay off the entire balance of £5,000.01. Off goes a cheque for £5 and 1p. They took about 3-weeks to cash the thing, but that's neither here nor there. It was sent Special Delivery btw.
Roll onto the next year.. You owe us £4.01. "Oh !!!!!!!" Suffice to say, off goes a cheque for £4 and 1p.
Last year. You owe us 8p!
I've given up! The calculation dates pass by the time that they actually do anything with the money. 8p! It cost 31p to write to me, to tell me that I owe 8p!!0 -
i havent checked online, but i see the deductions in my wage statement so at least its going down. very slowly!
student loans are rubbish in every capacity, especialy as grants are back in fashion, why wasnt i younger? or older?!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -

(a) they charge the lowest rates of interest - so ive been told, and (b) you pay it back verrrry slowly when compared to other loans0 -
You do realise you can pay off the balance by card as well, right? Can take this over the phone.0

they were a nightmare for me - failed to send me statements and couldn't keep track of my payments even though I was in same job and living at same address. They didn't receive a P60 one year when i was almost paid off, so instead of contacting me to request a copy they just continued to charge me - overcharging by a few hundred before I called to stop it. Refund didn't take too long but the whole thing is messed up when they are never clear about what you owe.
my advice - pay it off as soon as you can!!fran-o0 -
PS - one of my friends paid it off in full (with help from bank of Dad!) within months of finishing uni. About a year later suddenly SLC are deducting loan repayments from her wages...
I don't know how they get away with it!fran-o0 -
I had a letter a few weeks ago happily informing me that now I was on job seekers things would change a little...............fine except I came off job seekers in october 07 and have been working ever since - and paying them. Then they told me in my statement letter a week or 2 ago that i was working again now. Nice of them to tell me lol.Debt which IS NOW GONE before 31.12.2011: CC - GONE!!! :j Loan: GONE!! :j
