I have contacted retailers with no reply as to which is better.
I have a chlorine pool of about 8500 gallons and it is currently heated by electric and I am keen to save. I am about to install a 50,000btu gas boiler and heat exchanger I would also like to power the heat exchanger with a solar (Vacuum) panel. The two heat exchangers are about the same price but which to chose
Bowman swimming pool heat exchangers manufactured with cupro-nickel tubes at 30-50000btu or Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger made from 316 grade stainless steel, 60,000 btu
Any advice

So what do you use 8500 gallons of chlorine for?
Does it burn more when it's heated?0 -
chlorinated water as opposed to salted0

Hi Rudolph. That's the first swimming pool query I've seen on this site!0

Dear Rudolph
We have a 20,000 gal pool and use a Gas boiler. We did look into solar heating BUT the capital cost did not give sufficient pay-back on a 7-year plan.

i've just reduced my pool from 11,000 galls to around 8,000 gals
i heat it with oil on a direct feed(same water in boiler and pool)
had it on a 125,000 bth boiler and could on keep it warm enough for more than 6-8 weeks
5 yrs ago took out the heat exchanger and solar heating, as it was 20 yrs old
the solar heating was very good and free, heres how it was set up
all he had put in was 1/2" int dia rubber hoses run under the marble patio, there was 8 runs of rubber pipe, with gate valves, and the connector between the gate valves and the rubber hoses was a 2"x2" box steel tube with welded ends and welded on connecters,
it worked really well, think he worked in the mining industry so was easy to get things make up in them days0 -
we to have a pool and would like solar heating where do we start looking ???0

Mark35:I was going to connect a solar panel
(http://www.ukhornets.co.uk/water.htm seemed quite reasonable)
to a heat exchanger
(http://www.ukpoolstore.co.uk/acatalog/swimming-pool-heat-exchangers.html)
solar pipes are another alternative

Thanks to Gamston for the post, I wonder if it is an outdoor or indoor pool, which part of the country and the temperature achieved with the pipes....Thanks0 -
I can't help thinking, at least now we know where all the lottery winners hang outIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0

i live in notts area,
like i said reduced size of pool so i could keep it heated for longer,
last year was the first with the reduced size and i think i got another 3 weeks out of pool, its an outdoor pool
the only reason i took this solar heating out was because it was 20 yrs old and was leaking all over
when i had the solar pipes i think it kept heat just up to 78-80F, with top-up heat from oil boiler every 3 or 4 days.
these rubber pipes i had where laid on top of rubber convey belts(mining industry again) then cement shim on top, followed with a marble patio on top of that. so the rubber pipes where around 2inches below your feet when u walked on the patio.
the marble patio was a good conducter of heat,
i don't know if u would get the same amount of heat if you laid them under concrete patio slabs
just looked at the link put above for the solar heating, and it looks a lot like the homemade one that was fitted to my pool
next door neighbour has one of the old wickes (the DIY store) ones, heats it with econmory 7 they swim from early april to late nov every year, heat it to 84F (i'm an oldie can't understand what 84F would be in C)
tell me it costs no more than smoking would cost him, they r retired peeps0 -
Wish I had this problem with my leaky old paddling pool...
