All,
I'm looking for a good deal on a good quality king size divan and mattress.
Argos have a Silentnight Mirapocket thing for £675, but I'm not convinced on Silentnight quality. I'd rather fork out an extra 20% or so for a bed and mattress that'll last 10 years, than have to replace it after 5.
I definitely want a pocket sprung mattress but without (or with a very thin) memory foam. I've read that mf mattresses are dangerous for infants (please also don't flame me on the perceived dangers of bed-sharing...!) and I can always get a topper in due course if I want one. I also find that firm mattresses tend to give me back-ache, compared to medium. Although that might just be my current knackered divan and cheapo Miracoil mattress...
One thing I am sure of is that Argos is NOT where I'm going to get the best deal, or even a particularly good quality bed!
So what's a good make, and how much should I expect to pay? Is it cheaper buying base and mattress separately?
Thanks for any advice!
J
I bought a Dorlux bed 8 years ago 1/2 price in a sale for approx £799, and its still great, as good as new. Its pocket sprung, and is really deeply quilted. Its medium firm, so its supportive but very soft and comfy with all the padding. Even the Divan base is sprung and feels really comfy without the mattress. I would definitely recommend.0 -

I don't know if it is a caseof 'they don't make them like they used to', but I was very recently told by someone who dismantled a Dorlux mattress that the quality was terrible, and they couldn't believe how they stayed together. Obviously this might only apply to one model.
Also they do still use the continuous spring system that most manufacturers (excluding the Silentnight group) have stopped using due to it's unreliability.0 -
Thats really strange, because mine is one of the comfiest beds I've tried. It is really good quality, and is in excellent shape. Perhaps it was that model. I can not see my particular bed for sale anywhere online still, so maybe its been discontinued.0

That is the problem, many companies have lowered the spec of their products in recent years to cut production costs.
Dorlux have also been taken over. So what you got 10 years ago is unlikely to be what you get now..............for example, Silentnight used to be good quality.0 -
tim, hope you're still reading this thread!I rang them today and it seems kashmir is a replacement for the monarch, they just haven't updated their website yet.The shop said it was turnable, the person at sprungland said she sells them and it isn't and the person in the factory who i was given to said that he wasn't able to tell me which of their pocket sprung beds were turnable as i was a member of the public and not trade, but then i got out of him that they are all turnable. it seems the discount bed shop i went to should sell all of the pocket sprung ones on the sprungland site, (are they an independent maker?), how would i know what is bottom of the range and what is top? thanks mandyTim_Deegan wrote: »I can't find that one on their web site

The Monarch was entry level with only 800 pocket springs in a king size mattress.
They do appear to be an independent company.0 -
