Help! System grinding to a halt!

Hi Folks
Was wondering if someone could give advice as to why my computer is running at a virtual standstill. The OS is Windows 2000. It seems ok for the first few moments after i've booted it up, however in the time it takes to check my emails it's running at a snails pace. Windows has given a few warnings about the virtual memory being low. I've increased it but to no avail. It's driving me nuts! Any ideas?

It sounds that it may, pssibly, be clogged with spyware. Follow the instructions on HERE

    Spyware is EVIL!

  • johnny - what is the spec of the machine that you are using?

Can you load task manager and look at the CPU utilisation - that will probably confirm your suspicion that its max'd out - if so, then click on the process tab and let us know what the main memory and CPU hoggers are - as previously said it could be spyware or anythnig eating up your machine..........

Thanx Lulubelle. Followed the instructions via the link and seems to have done the trick. It took a while but was worth it. Good as new in fact. Now all I have to do is stop the evil spyware in the first place!

    Genius, eh? If only..... :rotfl:

The guide is not just mine, Lulubelle. It was a team effort from many people.

Always the best way to achieve the desired end on a project like that.

Hope the two tutorials in my last post prove useful too. They are worth "bookmarking" for future reference [or "adding to favourites" for those of you still using IE ;) ]
