Pay for holiday by credit or debt card?

Hi all,
It is almost time for OH & I to pay for our summer holiday. The company charges 2.5% on all credit cards payments & this would work out to be around £60
I am aware that payment by credit card would mean we would be protected in the future should anything go wrong with the tour company, our credit card company are obliged to refund us the money.
But, we do have travel insurance as well as extra "Supplier Failure Cover" insurance & would prefer to pay by debt card in order to save ourselves the £60 in credit card charges.
Would I be making a big mistake paying by debt card or do you think the 2 insurances I have would be enough cover?
Thanks for your advice

Is the holiday covered with ABTA or ATOL protection?
Perhaps pay £100 by credit card and pay £2.50 for peace of mind, if you feel you need it.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Is it ATOL protected?

I am right in thinking that only the balance paid with the credit card is protected? I don't understand why paying a small part of it on credit card gives peace of mind unless somehow the protection covers the entire amount.0

According to martins edict, you are protected even if
you pay a small sum by credit card it doesnt have to be over £100. this was in the press in his column about two weeks ago.
But be aware, if you pay your travel agent for the holiday and the hotel/airline goes bust you are not covered because you are paying a third party. You are only covered under section 75 when you pay the hotel/airline etc. directly
To avoid this ensure your holiday is covered by ABTA or ATOL and then you dont need the CC protection anyway, therefore avoiding the % increase.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
So if for example you book flight only with netflights/expedia is that classified as booking with a (online) travel agent then, and therefore you would have no s75 protection:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0

correct, you would have to book and pay the airline itselfmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Just to back up what Annie says - book a holiday with any travel agent pay by debit card as you loose money by using your CC. Third parties are not covered. You can read all about it on Martins holiday site.:money:
Take care and be mse.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Thanks everyone for your comments. The company I am paying is a travel agent who is ATOl protected. I checked & I had paid the deposit on Maestro (unfortunately). But it does appear that will ATOL protection, travel insurance & Supplier Failure cover, I will be protected! Now, just to let this swine flu business settle down...
I found this on one of Martins pages
You’re unlikely to be covered when payments are made to a company that isn’t the one providing you with the good or service. This is because the credit card company must have a direct relationship for them to be equally liable.
The other is buying through a Travel Agent, where it is simply directing you to get a flight from an airline or package holiday from a Tour Operator. You should usually have ATOL protection for package holidays anyway (see Cheap Package Holidays) but flights don’t usually have protection elsewhere0
