  • Aldi - this thursday.

For the kids - get a couple of pairs of sunglasses and a pair of goggles jic the weather's bad. The goggles need to be double lens - the Aldi ones are.

Kids will lose a pair of glasses each - in the mountain cafe, on the lift, falls etc etc but at £3.50 a go its not so bad. Also pick up a couple of tubes of SPF50 for their noses and ears and SPF30 for faces.

They have the rest - as previous post. Get a couple of pairs of gloves too.

Just a tip - when you get to resort - get your skis and boots that night if you can - avoid the scrum in the hire shop the following morning. Plus you can try on a couple of pairs to get a good fit.
Believe me - the most important thing is to get some comfy boots.

Also means your 1st up the mountain and can choose ski school moring / afternoon - go for morning. Makes you get up and out!!!!!!!!

It wasn't in the original pamphlet I saw but yesterday in my local Aldi they had ski jacket + salopettes for £39.99. Seeemd decent quality at a very good price. As I arrived a woman was piling four of them into a trolley--- so best hurry down if you are interested!!! The jackets would certainly do service as gnewral bad weather clothing/weather protection for other actrivities too....at that price you could consider the salopettes thrown in as a freebie...because they ar enot mush use for anything else but skiing...unless the weahter takes a serious turn fore the worse!
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

LIke someone already said, getting the boots wrong can make your holiday miserable, so don't leave the hire shop until they feel just right. Get some good, comfortable & warm ski socks as they will help with the comfort of the boots.

Get a hat that you can cover your ears with, or preferably hire a ski helmet - the slopes can be a dangerous place if you're not careful and/or looking out for everyone else.

Ideally, get gloves with removable linings but these can be quite expensive. If you are going to fall over a lot you'll find they get soaked. I found some in a sale for £20 reduced from £60 so maybe you'll be as lucky.

By all means get cheap goggles if it's your first time (you may hate it and never want to go again so no point in splashing out) but I would advise you get as good optics as possible. Asides from protecting your eyes (you will be getting balsted with sunlight from the sky AND the reflection from the snow) a good pair of goggles can really help you in poor visibility.

You might want to take some waterproof sun cream with you too for your face.

Like someone else already suggested, several thin layers are better than a single thick layer. So I would go for a thinnish ski jacket and a thermal vest rather than a puffa-style affair.
  • Got some recently from both Lidl and Tchibo!
