Ski Gear (clothing) On Sale Anywhere?

Just booked our first ski holiday (2 Adults 2 Kids) over Christmas this year. To be honest I don't know the first thing about what gear (clothing) I should get?

Should I get a couple of sets of weatherproofs? What sort of gear is good or bad? ........etc.etc?

Sorry I digress!

I would really like to know wheres the best place to go for a great deal on the stuff?

Any advice gratefully appreciated

Steven (Manchester)

I know lidl's were selling stuff really cheap and also Sports and soccer ( sports world now I think) also have things reduced by about 70 %. I also agree that Ebay do have good bargains but just be careful as alot of the time you really need to try things on to know that they will fit ok and enable to you have a good range of movement.

like trinnylilac I think i'd rather make sure the gear fits well rather than buying from ebay. heard someone mention tkmax as a potential for a decent set of kit, has anyone been in lately and seen anythin worth a trip down for?
  • Tkmaxx have loads of decent skiwear (jackets, sallopettes etc) at very reasonable prices. I don't know whereabouts in Manchester you are, but have you been to Tkmaxx at Manchester Fort, it's quite big, with an upstairs for men, and not as jumbled as the rest of them!

Which country are you going to? You might get some bargains at the country you're going to if the exchange rate is good.

Aldi are selling ski gear this week (Thursday I think) oh and tchibo have some good gear too.
  • If you know anybody with a makro account , they have ski clothing on offer at mo. adults matching jacket & salopettes for £50. Kids same £ 40.
  • Tchibo had some great offers on last week, I bought myself a ski jacket for £34! Check instore or online as in their latest catalogue they had details of mens ski stuff too.
  • I've been skiing a couple of times and I'm looking for a new jacket myself. No one seems to have answered the part of your question about what to buy so I thought I'd give you my opinion.

You'll need warm ski trousers (salopettes) preferably with braces. and a warm jacket, both should be waterproof, as if you're a novice you'll do a lot of falling over like me and get covered in snow. You need to be able to move freely in your gear so get loose fitting stuff. You'll definitely need gloves and a hat too. I get very warm with the exertion of trying to ski, so don't wear thick clothes under your jacket. I find a long sleeve t-shirt plenty warm enough. Once you start venturing on the piste, you'll probably need some goggles to cut the glare of the snow, but don't buy really expensive ones. We got Uvex goggles for about 10 euro on our first ski trip and they're fine.

If you've got a Mountain Warehouse near you, they sell Trespass gear which is very reasonably priced.
