Right ok, i tried to download spotify on to this old laptop. (XP SP3)

the .exe file downloads fine, but no matter where i download it from, or which browser i download it through etc, i go to run the installer and after clicking run this error message pops up.

The website shows no issues with the downloads and a quick google search showed many win7 annd vista sers had this issue but simply re downloading it solves their issues and not mine...

hmmm, so i though of running CMD, dragging the installer into the prompt screen and then typing (space)/NCRC.

Ok so it stopped the error message but half way into the installer it just stops and says the file is corrupt or incomplete.

I tried downloading it on my desktop computer and it worked fine!

I cant import that .exe via a memory stick either because the usb ports are broken on this laptop.

Any ideas? im stuck now.

by the way you can see i have fairly decent virus software and none of them have flagged anything up whilst running full scans. so i ruled out the virus bit.

ps. theres a link to the picture at the top of the post incase the picture will display correctly.

ropey hard drive or ram? or a dodgy overclock?

Have you tried downloading it on the desktop, then copying to a usb drive, then running it from the usb drive?

Either way, I'd run some diagnostics. If that laptop's corrupting files, it's a matter of time before something important gets corrupted.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

well the drive has been fine, havnt come across any errors and everything else downloads fine, just spotify...

havnt overclocked this as its not mine so its not that and like i said, the usb's dont work on the laptop so the usb drive is out of the question.

What i can think of though is some sort of windows update happening a few days back, something with windows security, and it completed and restarted the comp but when it did it removed the vista theme ive put on this computer and it reverted to the old win98 style them. i reinstalled the vista theme and for somereason the update thing came back up saying it needs to restart still, after repeating this process it happened again but after virus searching etc and deleting a virus this issue was solved.

now the comp is fine and the vista thing is fine but this problem is now present.

Thats why im flat out of ideas?

what would you recommend doing for a diagnostic?
