He does have medical insurance, but so do his colleagues.

    His code is 620L.

He earns £27,600(approx) basic before tax.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.

Thanks for all your replies so far!:T

Is this a tax code from payslip April, or from March? If he has medical insurance, he should get P11D for every year where he can see how much that is.
What tax code is his friend on? The fact that he is married has no affect on tax what so ever.
Is he significantly older/younger (or even smoker) then him? That might cause different amount paid for the medical insurance by the company (which would explain difference in tax code, if the difference is only small).

No being married has no effect unless your over 74 or thereabouts. Much more complicated, but that'll do for now! His personal allowance is 6205 (Actually 6209 but never worry about that!) so he's been given an allowance of £170 for something, maybe tools? Perhaps his colleagues have got a higher allowance?

If the tax code is from April, then basic tax allowance is £6475 and therefore he is missing some of his tax allowance (maybe due to that medical insurance??), but if all employees get that then it shouldn't be much different from his colleagues.
