Not sure if this is the right place to post this thread, please forgive me if not!:o
Hoping someone here can give us some advice, please!:D
My OH has been asking around at work & it would appear that he is being taxed at a far higher rate than his colleagues!
Can anyone tell us how we can check if he is being taxed too much?
Many thanks in advance.

Tell us his tax code maybe??0
-
Thought you might need that!:o Unfortunately he's at work right now, so it will have to wait, I'm afraid.
He also told me just before he left that he's supposed to be entitled to an allowance from the tax office for tools & clothing/uniform for his job!

Has he requested that? It doesn't come by itself.
Once we know his tax code, we will be able to tell more.0 -
also what is his annual gross pay? If he is higher rate and his colleagues are basic rate then he would be paying more than them.0

does he receive any kind of benefits from work such as a company car, free private medical etc?
A company car plus fuel could easily put him onto a K code resulting in him paying more tax.0 -
He does have medical insurance, but so do his colleagues.
His code is 620L.
He earns £27,600(approx) basic before tax.
Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.
Thanks for all your replies so far!:T0 -
He should be paying around £356 Tax + £200 NI on that (therefore Net = £1743 ....... from a monthly gross of £2300).
Play around with this a little if the figures you've given aren't quite right (or he makes pension contributions)

...... but watch to change the year to 09-10
EDIT
or this one .... but watch to use the advanced options and input the Code number :

Thanks a lot for that Mike!:D
OH says that sounds about right, he just wondered why his tax code was different & he was paying more tax, worrying that he may be being over taxed.
Just asked hi it his colleagues are married, he said yes. I assume that that makes a difference though he said he thought that being married doesn't effect your tax as it used to.

No being married has no effect unless your over 74 or thereabouts. Much more complicated, but that'll do for now! His personal allowance is 6205 (Actually 6209 but never worry about that!) so he's been given an allowance of £170 for something, maybe tools? Perhaps his colleagues have got a higher allowance?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
