Complaint with the Post Office

hi, i sold an item on ebay and queued up paid the postage and got a proof of postage. when it arrived at the other end the postage had been removed and she had to pay the postage and the 'handling' fee. i of course refunded this and filled in a complaint form. they got back to me today with no explanation as to how this happened, and included a few stamps as compensation. i am quite angry, generally due to the poor service and general attitude of the post office. basically what i wanted to know was do people feel this is a suitable resolution and i should let it go, or should i pursue it? if so how is best? thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem like that a while back, I just got an apology letter and a few stamps too. Seems to be common practise as I have heard others get this too.

The post office look at it like this. The item got there. The person had to pay extra for postage, so they refund the small amount in postage stamps.

My OH (who works in a Post Office) says -the sticky labels don't stick properly to industrial masking tape and duct tape or certain types of plastic bags. They should stick ok to normal selotape or packing tape. He said he shows customers who turn up with packing the label won't stick to that there is a problem with it and they need to use something else.

He also said that what you received back is pretty good service considering most of the customers he speaks to who normally use other post offices are just given the complaints number and thats it.

    what would you expect?
millions of items a day ,so things like this can happen
that few stamps would be a book of 12 1st class? so £4.68
    does that cover your outlay?

What happened to us was we were sending things to my son and grandchildren Christmas Birthdays etc etc and it was not getting to him complained and nothing happened we were told you shouldn't send money through the post which is right but when your son and grandchildren live miles and miles away you do. We were also sending Important dockuments for my sons bussiness and did i mention we were paying extra for recorded mail too. Anyway it turns out that my sons postman was a very nice person and used to open the mail for my son but in his house and to save my son and grandchildren having to go to the trouble of spending the money HE would do this for him too. And still the post office did do nothing for us as you say a couple of stamps. Well at least he is caught now but apparently they never caught him with open letters only sacks of unopend mail in his house and he said it was to much for him to deliver and he was only storing it there untill he was able to deliver it. Perhaps they will give him some stamps to.   I know i have made this sound humorous but its a true story. And I am also terribly sorry for highjacking this thread
The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.

I dont know about the OP but i would expect a decent service. Royal Mail lose my mail all the time. I've had bank statements, ebay purchases and other mail go missing. I send away for items on the freebies board, and ive had email confirmation that the item has been sent, and they never arrive. The last item was a £20 begginer fermentation kit , from ebay, that despite getting a card to say i missed delivery the delivery office didnt have the item. Presumably some postman fancied the kit for himself.

I'd say that it would be too much hassle to persue this time though cmoo, but keep count and if it happens again then kick up !!!!.
