Congrats on the job! Hope it works out for you. I guess you're an expert in that area. If you don't mind, once I start looking into this in more detail, I might ask for some tips.

Just one question about a website being banned ... you said that your google account got banned (and not your website). Would it be possible to just open a new google account?

Yes it is possible, but tricky. You need to open a new account in someone else's name and address, perhaps a relative. And then you must always use a proxxy whenever logging into that account so they can't track it back to you. I looked into it and it doesn't seem worth the hassle. Just be extremely careful with adsense.

I personally love blogging myself being that I want to do software (I still blog about) at the moment I am reading through the good old ANSI C book just to show what competence I have with constructing code as such. I like to understand how computers work, why things are the way they are, then apply that to real situations (allows you to make better software in the long run somewhat).

I have been going at this for probably about 3-4 months maybe (actually it's hosted on my very own server), for which of course I am the sys admin for, so I choose what programming software I can use on it, been a real eye opener for that basis.

That's really good to know I mean I am not making anything from my blog at the moment but I will definately keep at it, it's a sort of my reflections on what I have done (not the actual work, but the theory of the work I have done), like to take say multiple records from a database and delete them try out different solutions, then say 6 months have passed when I realise there was a trouble with my logic, I would warn people on the original post then link them to a solution.

I would treat mine like yes steal my logic off there but ask me to modify it in anyway and there's a charge, it's just the decent thing to do, I think personally.

Also I thought I would say this, love this signature:
My aim is to make my business work in 2012.
Clear my debt & make up savings!
2012 will be my year :-)

I too personally think this year will be good, I am already digging into Java, there's people out there who'd be willing to pay for an install of something like Wordpress or which ever blogging software you are using, showing some kind of proof you can do what you do then there's more chance of you getting work doing that (though they have tended to ask for more work doing than just actually installing software).
Doing some indepth analysis of my outgoings it's a real eye opener!

I find if I keep paying by card and keeping the receipts insisting that I have them from the shop, then itemising them when I get home on excel makes my life a whooole lot easier!

Nice post, but the above highlighted is very wrong. Where on earth did you get that idea from? Almost all hosts have one click install for most blogging platforms including wordpress. Log into hosting, click the big button called "Install Wordpress", done in less than 2 seconds.

39 views in the first fortnight of a new site? You may well not be doing anything wrong, it can take a while for things to get established. (I assume these views aren't actually yourself!)

How often do you add a new blog post or decent content? And how many posts in total so far? That is posts that are actually interesting, thought provoking and not just a couple of sentences of status update; "I went ... today, it was only average."

Who have you told about your blog? Where have you put links to you blog? Have you submitted it to any search engines? e.g. in Google Webmaster tools, point it to a sitemap of your site.
  • One thing I would strongly advise new people to do is dont just build one blog/site. This is a learning process and its very difficult to learn how Google behaves with just one site.

You see one site can get lucky in the results or do nothing at all and you can get deeply frustrated trying to figure out whats going on.

Build 3 at a minimum and promote each in individually. That way you can compare and see whats working and you will always find one site that does not perform well. That way you will know its the site and not you or what you are doing, this type of analysis is almost impossible with one site unless you have proven methods.

Ok I am trying to read this thread and slowly understand the blogging and earning money but I am impatient and have some Qs...

Can you put your own links in the site? For instance the wintercoat blog, could they have linked to sites themselves that sell winter coats or not because of the advertisers?

I'm still new to blogging but from my limited experience 39 views in two weeks isn't too bad. Regarding comments, I love reading them when they happen, but I don't get many (and some of those are spam). I suppose people have to be in the mood/have the time etc. I find that if you comment on other people's blogs, they sometimes come and have a look at your blog and make a comment. I don't have many people who have 'joined' either. When I visit some blogs they have hundreds of 'followers', but then they've been doing it a lot longer than I have. I suppose patience and perseverance is key, although sometimes you start wondering whether you're just a crap blogger.
