Need to end tenancy agreement 2 months early, private landlord

I'm going post crazy today, lots I need to get off my mind... ! Right, to cut a long story short, I rent a flat through a private landlord (no agencies etc.) and I have one of those pretty basic looking agreements/contracts that every private landlord I've dealt with seems to have copies of.... hope you know the one I'm talking about
The contract was originally 12 months starting 1st September 2007, I renewed it in July 2008 to run through to the end of August 2009 but my employers are going to allow me to work remotely from the end of June to allow me to move in with my other half (who lives a considerable distance from my place of work) - basically I want to get out of the contract 2 months before the agreement is up.
I figured 2 months notice would be plenty of time, assuming my landlord was ok with me cutting the agreement short and I'm going to draft a letter. He's a fairly easy going guy but does seem to like to do things by the book, I've not been a problem tennant as far as I'm aware, I've only been late with my rent once and that was by 1 day due to being snowed in.... my only questions are, is there a basic template letter out there that I can work to to advise him that I'd like to end the contract early? Do I need to explain my change of circumstances? If not, should I? Could I expect him to withhold my deposit?
Cheers in advance for any advice!

Write him a polite, calm, letter explaining circumstances and asking if you may leave early. Legally (unless there is something odd in the tenancy agreement) regardless of when you leave you have to pay the rent up to the end of the tenancy, end Aug 2009.
However if you offer to help find a new tenant/make it very easy for viewings for new tenants and generally help him out he might be flexible. But he doesn't have to be.
Sorry! Cheers!

Sounds pretty fair, I'll do just that then and hope he's feeling amicable

Just to add to Artful's comments - the LL can also look to you to meet his reasonable costs in finding that new T, eg advertising You would also continue to be liable for things like C Tax (if a furnished property), water rates etc until a new T was found, if the liability for those has rested with you under the contract terms.0
