Need to buy a tomtom for general UK and European travel (planning to drive in France in a few weeks).
Totally confused and lost - what's the one to get?
What about map updates, I don't want any subscriptions on it at all. I guess I'd be happy with maps for the whole of western europe that are relatively up to date for say sub 200 quid - if that's poissible? Hopefully that won't be a problem.
I've got some house of fraser vouchers so hoping to use them at Oxford Street House of Fraser to make the purchase (apparently they stock the tomtom) - I could buy it anywhere though.
All tips apprecaited as have never had one of these before.

The TomTom One with Western Europe mapping should do the job fine. You should be able to pick it up for around £100 or so.0

If you check this thread:

An option is to load the TomTom software on to a cheaper Sat Nav. The offer for the cheap Sat Nav has now finished, I believe, but a similar model should be much cheaper than a fullpriced TomTom.
Works great!0 -
I just bought TomTom because on special packs they'll give you free roadside assistance in Europe which is worth about £50 - check for it on Comet / Amazon. By the way, the TomTom maps aren't that great - if I was buying another one I might try a Garmin if it was cheaper.0

I thought you could keep downloading updates to your current map but if you want to download new maps you had to pay? Maybe it amounts to the same thing...0

You get user submitted updates free. I'm sure it said for a year but I'm still getting them and I've had mine longer than a year.
If you want a complete update of the maps you have to pay. No idea how much though.0 -
