Experian & House Buying

Hi All, Hope you can be of assitance. I am currently renting privately with My Fiancee. Our landlord has just recently offered to sell the house to us which are very keen to do after we are married in six months. I recently checked my experian credit report and I had a score of 805. I defaulted on a loan on 3k a few years ago due to leaving money with a family member whilst travelling in new Zealand only to find out on my return that he hadnt paid it. To cut a long story short I am asking does it help going in for a joint mortgage. We will be looking to get a mortgage for around 170k and have a joint salary of 50k.

Any help would be appreciated on this
