Computer running slow.Could it be a virus?

Hi all.My computer has decided to slow up all the time.Usually I can watch a movie, surf the net and do something else, but now it wont.I'm thinking it might be a virus but I have Avast which is normally pretty good in picking something up.

Ive seen on other threads the process of a hijack log and other procedures. Was wondering if someone could walk me through the process? It can be a pacy stroll, I'm decent on computers.Josh

Although virii and malware are unwanted, they arent the sole cause of machines running slow. In fact the industry and software companies love to scaremonger you to think this is the reason so that you buy their removal/detection software.

Not installing junk and regular cleanups will help, sadly you do need a decent antivirus if you want peace of mind and the more software used for all this safeguarding will slow most machines down. :(
Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Avira is one of the best free anti-viruses around.

The programs I've mentioed apart from Avira are all ondemand programs (SAS requires a couple of untick in it's options as the default is to load on boot) meaning they won't slow a PC down.

    Hi,

I'm going to hijack this thread slightly...apologies.

I have a similar problem to the OP with my laptop...difference is I don't know anything about this and I mean anything..:o

Any advice on what i should do to speed it up...clear stuff off perhaps? should i try putting things on an external harddrive in order to create more memory on the laptop itself..??

    Any help appreciated! :)

    Chewy ~

Malwarebytes checks for nasties on your computer .Simply SCAN. Once scanned TICK everything it finds and 'delete/quarantine' them all and post the log to me so I can see what they were

    HIJACK tells us whats running

Theyre both completely safe to post without any security issues

I look for compatability issues, nasties, lack of security and programs running that id recommend you shouldnt
