Paid twice - how?

Hi, I just sold an item on ebay and somehow the buyer has managed to pay (by Paypal) twice. Two identical payments for one item. Obviously I will refund the second payment, but was wondering how this has happened.

not sure how it happens but it has happenned several times on my account when accepting payments, must be a glitch in the paypal system.

Hi, I have paid twice before. Its when you press send payment and everything freezes so you press it again and it ends up sending the payment twice.

Nothing to worry about, I have done it and a couple of my customers have done the same. It doesnt affect ebay, just sends the payment twice to paypal.

Likewise I have done it twice when Paypal froze. Didn't I feel like an idiot asking for the money back.

I thought they had improved things and it didn't happen now. I found it used to happen quite a lot (I think more so when many were still on dial up connection).

Some IT buff should be able to answer why it is not possible to have some code to make this impossible?

The seller needs to set it up on their paypal account, so multiple payments are refused.

Log into paypal, click "profile" (on the "my account" tab), on the right click "payment receiving preferences" and update the following -

Block accidental payments:
You may prevent accidental payments by blocking duplicate invoice IDs
Yes, block multiple payments per invoice ID
No, allow multiple payments per invoice ID

Why paypal don't have it set to "no" by default is anyones guess!
