you need to accept your dad is thick as pig shlt!

There was really no need for that. How dare you insult someone you dont know who is really only trying to help his family out. I really think you should edit your post and delete this part of it. Not helpful and not moneysaving which is the point of these boards.

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I still cannot believe that there are still people naive enough to believe that the market is recovering. There are no concrete signs of any recovery in the market. A blip perhaps, recovery no.

What is a recovery? Is it prices reaching bottom or is it the return to 2007 levels?

Keep hold of your money, you will be glad to have waited until at least next year. On top of that, interest rates are going back up by the end of the year and that will spell disaster for many home owners - although I am not for profiting on others sufferering etc, but the opportunity for cheaper property will be huge.

How do you know interest rates are going up at the end of the year?

Why would it spell disaster for many home owners? Would it spell disaster for FTBers who missed out on such a product?

    QUOTE]

Recovery - return to the trendline. We haven't even started going below it yet.
30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.
  • People often have different opinions. It doesn't have to be a problem. When people badger me about 'getting on the ladder' I just tell them in a nice way that I disagree.

What would your Dad prefer: a child who thinks for themself, or a child who's too scared to?

I actually disagree with most of the posters on here ,you have a great deposit there are lot of bargains out there you could get a really good deal.

For example you could buy a house worth £140,000 for probably 120,000 or 127,000 whatever, prices may drop a little further but not much, and then the housing market will recover again probably very slowly but in the right direction.
In my opinion its the right time to buy while people NEED to sell get yourself a bargain find out from estate agents who's desperate and go and have a look.
You may as well start looking!

And there you have the problem with our electoral system......it's the fact people vote for someone based on what their family have done for decades..no thought for policies.

My dear old Dad has been voting Lib Dem for years blissfully unaware they really had no hope of reaching power.

    Your contradicting yourself.
If you only vote for the party you think will win, then you aren't thinking about their policies, only their popularity with the rest of the electorate.
Maybe your Dad actually thinks that LibDem policies are worth supporting, and fells the best way of showing his agreement is to vote for them.

My dad buys houses to let 3 months ago he bought a house for £140,000 that was for sale for!£160,000 and just last week bought a house For £120,000 which was onj the market for £145,000.

The key is not to be too keen they will try to push you up n but stand your ground tell them what you can afford and you will get a great deal.

On top of that get a mortgage where you can overpay ,pay it off as quick as you can because of the probability that interest rates will rise
