ebay and follow on sales

I have been toying with the idea of trying to sell some stuff on ebay and I have a couple of ideas...

but I am just wondering what ebay's policies are- if you sell something and then subsequently offer further products etc...

For example if i sold something and then offered technical support with it for a further fee would that be frowned on by ebay? or maybe some sort of updates to the product?
Also what is the stance on sending items to people with say, a catalogue of further products?

Do ebay have some detail terms and conditions somewhere? I have read through their help pages but they arent very specific.

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/rfe-spam-non-ebay-sale.html

This may help a bit but like you say it isnt very specific.

If most of your sales with come from after care have you thought about setting up your own website (you can do it free).
  • Thanks! That makes it sound like it probably is against the rules...but what about if in my listings/invoices i just provide a link to a website as a signiture?
And yes I had thought of setting a website up, but i assumed that would cost money. How do I do it free?

Putting a signiture on your listings is a no no. If however you provide details with the goods you send there is no way that ebay will know unless someone reports you.

You can watermark your pictures on your listings with a link but I doubt this will do much good.

As for your own website you can get a free one with oscommerce or similar and get hosting packages for about £18.00 per year.

There is plenty of info on this on the techie board to help you.

123 reg has cheap domains. I have one for my website and a very similar one directed to my ebay store but I never advertise this on ebay.

There are some good discounts to be had with hosting at the moment but I would read some reveiws, the customer service differs greatly.

I received something that I had bought from Ebay last week & the seller had enclosed a note saying thanks for buying & then their website address on the bottom. I thought this was a really good idea as I received good service from them so I will definitely be looking at their own website in future.

Email them from off-eBay - no problem at all.

Thanks - but I have seen listings where the person owns a physical shop puts details of that for example...is that different? what about having a company logo of some kind?
This is academic really - I don't tihnk I am going to bother with my idea for now as don't think it will be worth it really...
might try selling some junk lying round my house to get a feel for how ebay works.

I dont know what the rules are when it comes to a physical shop.

You can put your own company logo on your shop and it does help you stand out from the rest.

I found the best thing was to start small then build gradually. Ask ebay for help along the way. Youll soon start to get a feel of whats ok and not ok once you start, there is plenty of opportunity to advertise your services to customers
