Online train tickets and the £1.50 credit card fee

Just noticed qjump and thetrainline now charge £1.50 for using credit cards in transactions. However virgintrains.co.uk doesn't. I buy my weekly tickets from them now.

On a side issue it is possible to get 1% back on quidco/thetrainline purchases. Not a lot but it is a saving for regular travelers not using credit cards.

Hope this helps someone.

Qjump was taken over by thetrainline a number of years ago and are exactly the same website now.

If you use https://www.nationalrail.co.uk instead you will reach a stage where you can choose who to use. Just pick a rail company instead.

And they don't try to charge you for insurance either

Yep I just discovered that, cancelled my trainline order and ordered through nationalrail.co.uk and chose First Great Western. They don't charge a CC fee (although they use exactly the same web system as the trainline, and I have a feeling the tickets will come from the same place...)!

Not sure if any other rail companies charge a surcharge or not? Perhaps we could start a list...?
