help cant open an account

My partenr worked as a builder until recently and was paid by cheque that was made out to me and went into my bank but has since been laid off. He has now got a new job and they will only pay him into his own bank account. We have been trying to open him an account with natwest for days. The problem he's having is that his pasport doesn't have his middle name on and all official letters either come to me or have his full name or initials on. The bank says since it doesn't match his passport they can't accept it. Is this true with all banks? he just wants a bog standard account with no overdraft he also has a provisional driving licence that has his middle name on as proof of id but natwest says that because he's over 21 they can't accept it. Natwest have told him because he has no official letters with ammounts on that just have his first and last name on that no bank will open an account for him. Can someone help he needs an account in the next 2 days otherwise he wont be able to work! thankyou

Just to add to this, I called Barclays and applied to open a current account over the phone. They did it and asked me a series of questions based on my Equifax credit report. I answered them all correctly and she said there was now no need to take and ID into the branch.

If you apply online then they give you a similar quiz there. Some of the questions were a bit esoteric though.

Easiest account to open is a Halifax Easy CashCard - its chip and pin not a cashcard as in a savings account - its a no thrills no frills account

You can apply for a better card and this is the minimum you will get - all online

If he goes in to a branch of Abbey they'll open an account, passport only is required. Given that he needs an account asap for wages to be paid I wouldn't waste your time with online apps, applying in branch means you'll be given the account details immediately.

The reason that the account could NOT be opened elsewhere was because the passport did not have his middle name on it.

Thats why I suggested the Halifax Account it can be opened without any of those restrictions.

Not necessarily esoteric. I strongly assume MOST applicants would understand the questions if it is really them
Example of typical question would: state the approx balance on your credit card xxxxx etc. Or when it was opened

They asked me about 4 questions and offered 3 possible answers to choose from. They were about account opening dates, approx balance on certain account, name of a lender associated with a loan and loan repayment term.

we are a small building company and quite often when lads start they don't have their own bank account, i'm not keen on paying their money into someone elses account either. I always direct them to halifax the basic bank account, it does have a debit card, think its electron. None of them have ever had any problems and have very bad credit. I know its a hassle but it probably better that he gets his own account sorted, halifax online banking is the best i've used, like the faster payments and the fact i can pay a cheque in at a machine, so i don't have to deal with people.

My passport has my 2 middle names as does my driving licence, all my bank accounts/cards (theres loads) just have my first name and surname, never had any problem.
