Pre-Orders

Hi all!
Not sure if this is the right place for this question but I couldn't see a more suitable section!
I've recently placed an order on the internet for an item which will be released in "May" no more specific than that. The website has taken my money straight away which surprised me a little. I emailed them about it and they sent back a one sentence reply stating that payment for all pre-orders and orders are taken when the order is submitted.
I view this as a little unfair and especially so when there is no specific date for delivery therefore my question is; are there any rules/guidelines about taking payment for items which are not actually in stock and ready for dispatch?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks for reading!

Which website was it? Most will take your order but don't debit your card until the item is available and dispatched.0

It was lookfantastic.com. To be honest I never expected they'd take the money until the item was despatched but on the other hand I didn't read all the terms and conditions as one doesn't!0
