Is WMP the best to use or are there other alternatives to use to rip cd's. What are the advantages of using other one's than WMP?

Many thanks

I suppose it depends what you want to do with them but I use WMP with no problems, came with the machine so no need to look elsewhere.

I have also used vlc which is a great piece of software and free

Doesn't WMP only convert into WMA files? Don't think it does MP3s. Could be wrong here.

If im ripping a CD i would use some free open source software like CDex

    cdexos.sourceforge.net

As this supports more codecs/formats and you can really customise the quality of your audio files.

    Thanks Duk

Have had a look. On the download tab - how do I know which version to download? I have windows Vista. Do I need both the Installer & Zip Archive?

    Thanks

I would recommend the 1.51 Stable installer version.

Click on "Download for Windows NT series (NT, 2000, XP, Vista)" under the installer tab.

You dont need to worry about the zip version that is just a package of the files instead of an installer, Installer is easier really.

    Does WMA, MP3 and WAV.

WMP does just fine. It all depends if you want/need other formats.

    It does MP3 too...

    Tools > Options > Rip Music > Format > MP3

Or at least WMP11 does anyway.

I use iTunes myself. AAC sounds better than mp3 to my ears.
