 Not like me to vent but this is ridiculous. We've come to the end of a three year agreement on our car, it is one where you have the option to either buy or return it. As it's in good condition, always been serviced etc, we decided to buy it as the price is very good. Anyhoo, that is fine, hubby spoke to the finance company beginning of last week and said don't take a final DDR, I will phone you and pay for it with my credt card (very good interest rate) they said fine.
They then proceeded to take it out of our bank two days later, realised their error and put it straight back. Had one DDR for house insurance bounced as we were overdrawn and charged 8 quid - fair enough, annoying but not banks fault.
Hubby then rang company on Friday, paid final amount off and that was that or so we thought.
I went to cash machine yesterday and my card was refused. Came home looked at online bank account and the finance company had taken the final amount out AGAIN, even though it had been paid off on Friday and we were MEGA overdrawn. Spoke to the bank explained situation, and they said we can lend you some money for a few days to cover your bills until it's sorted - council tax DDR, insurance etc due to come out. Was told someone would phone us back.
Someone did and said minimum we could do was have £1000 over a 12 month period and I explained we'd pay it back in a few days. Was told well you'll be penalised for that and we'll charge you. I replied ok, we won't bother then.
Checked my online account this morning and the money has gone back into the account, so thank goodness we didn't take out an unwanted 12 month loan. hubby has spoken to finance company who are going to refund our bank charges, once we've got a letter from the bank about them - talk about a saga!!!!!
I was peed off at the finance company for messing up but the fact that we are living on a VERY tight budget and the bank just want to encourage further debt, made me realise why it's so easy to get into major debt.
also, all the things that had taken us over our limit were due to come out on Monday but over the weekend, we couldn't access any cash at all.
Blimey!!!
Thanks for listening.

You should have cancelled the DD at the bank.0

We did cancel the DD and it was still taken out of our account, I have a list of our DDs on my online account, and it had been taken off before the payment was taken.:hello:

Well, it's no wonder you're furious! Surely the DD guarantee should come into play? If you'd stopped the DD then the bank had no right to allow the supplier to withdraw the cash.0

did you cancel with enough notice, it's normally 2/3 working days.0 -
The finance company cancelled it on the 21st, then tried to take the money on the 22nd and then again on the 27th. They actually expired the agreement. When I looked at our account, it was no longer listed on my DD list and the bank said it had been cancelled too.:hello:
