That has to be amongst the most stupid petitions posted. Although taking a look, there are quite a lot of stupid ones.

How about taking your own responsbility?

Maybe I'm thick but I'm not sure what the suggestion is that the Government actually do - write off 20% of everyone's mortgage to remove the negative equity - that'll do wonders for the national debt!

Its a simple fact of life that for everyone that gains in a situation most likely someone else is losing to the same degree. Those getting on the ladder in 2007 will lose out, those selling up (through death etc) gained. C'est la vie!

Has anyone set up a petition yet to demand the government stop swine flu? Surely they should be held accountable?

Get over it. We were hit hard with negative equity in the early 1990's, our house was worth one third of what we paid for it. We sold 10 years later for two thirds of what we paid. A year later it was selling for one third more than we paid!! You take a risk when you buy property.

    It's NOT the Governments fault.

If your home is in negative equity don't move (unless you really, really have to).
    Nice to save.

In the last recession the banks did something about making negative equity mortgages portable, maybe this type of thing is what they are alluding to. If you don't need to move it doesn't really matter.

  • Impacts of negative equity:

    1. Someone not wanting to move at the moment.
    a. You could still be in NE when you decide to move later or when you die
    b. The NE is likely to increase.

    2. Someone wanting to move at the moment.
    a. Lender may not allow NE to be ported to new property.
    b. Usual MEWing option for moving costs no longer available.

Rocking horse science, it ain't. Painful it is. Everyone needs to deal with their own situation in their own way.

Exactly. It doesnt matter for the vast majority of those in neg eq. You either wait until your capital repayment buy you out of neg eq or you save up to fill the gap or you stay put.

yes they did. They introduced 125% mortgages for those in negative equity. It helped kick start the housing market again. Problem currently is that the Govt is anti 125% mortgages.
